Farewell to the Old Factory, a New Beginning for Nanshan Tea Factory
Nanshan Tea Factory wasn't brand-new, nor was it fancy-looking. The walls carried traces left by time, and the workshops always had a light tea fragrance in the air.

This place witnessed Zhiqinghe’s whole journey. We started with tentative trials, then gradually built a complete production system here. In this factory, we repeatedly studied how to improve tea processing technology. From raw tea handling to refined processing, every small adjustment in each step carried our experience and efforts accumulated by our team over the years.
Here, we developed many tea products. Top-grade matcha was produced, packaged, and shipped to countries and regions across the globe. During the process, we revised formulas and polished product details again and again to meet customers’ varied needs. These experiences helped us grow, and also left many memories of Zhiqinghe in this old factory.
The factory became especially busy during every tea-picking season. Fresh tea leaves rolled in nonstop. Workers arranged production according to the processing schedule. Machines in the workshop kept running, and finished products were stored in the warehouse, waiting to be shipped to different countries and regions. Sometimes we worked deep into the night just to hit tight production schedules. Those ordinary busy days made up the most genuine memories of Nanshan Tea Factory.
This place holds countless precious little moments: the sunlight coming in when the doors opened in the morning, the short moments of quiet outside the workshop in the afternoon, and the figures of everyone hurrying back and forth. None of these scenes were grand or spectacular. Yet these moments accompanied Nanshan Tea Factory through an unforgettable stretch of years. Now, Nanshan Tea Factory is about to enter a new stage of reconstruction. It marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
All these changes stem from practical business needs. As production capacity expanded, product categories increased, and customers raised higher requirements for product consistency and production standards, the old factory gradually showed limitations in production layout, storage space, and equipment arrangement.
The new factory will have a more organized production layout. Areas for raw material processing, production, packaging, and storage will be planned more efficiently. It will also provide better support for future product development, manufacturing, and customer service.
During our long-term cooperation with customers, we have also found that matcha is highly sensitive to production and storage environments. Batch consistency has always been one of the key concerns for customers. In the new plant, we will introduce standardized physical environment control systems to reduce the influence of external factors on product quality. We aim to keep color, aroma, and taste uniform across every single batch of matcha we make.
Out with the old, in with the new. The production experience and knowledge accumulated at Nanshan Tea Factory will continue in the new factory and accompany Zhiqinghe into the next stage of development.
We hope you’ll follow along as we build our new factory. We’ll be documenting the whole process and sharing the progress on our website.
The videos above are valuable records from the history of Dongfang Tea Research and Zhiqinghe. They capture how the old Nanshan Tea Factory served our brand for decades. They also carry deep love and fond memories from all past and present staff members of Dongfang Tea Research and Zhiqinghe.
Farewell, Nanshan Tea Factory. You will always remain in our memories. This time next year, the new factory born from your legacy will shine brighter than ever. It will deliver greater value and write a more glorious chapter for our tea brand.
