Efficacy Of Tea

The ancestors of Chinese people experienced four processes in drinking tea: eating raw tea-leaves for medicinal purposes, eating cooked tea-leaves as a dish, cooking tea-leaves for drinking, and brewing tea-leaves for drinking.

The earliest way for the ancients to use tea was to chew raw tea-leaves, and later they boiled tea-leaves soup with fire, just like people cook vegetable soup today. At that time, people only drank tea as soup or used tea as a dish.

1,Medicinal use: The discovery and utilization of tea can be traced back to the primitive period. In China’s first monograph about medicine, “Shennong Materia Medica”, it was said that “Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs”. He encountered 72 poisons every day and was relieved by tea. Tea is used as medicine and it can be chewed raw and taken orally, clear away heat. External application can diminish inflammation and detoxify.

2,For food use: from chewing raw tea leaves to cooking tea, tea can be used to cook “tea porridge” with grainboiled or seared to tea soup, and then picked it up and added condiments. Today, Jinuo people in Yunnan still have “cold tea dishes”.

3,For drinking use: drinking tea comes from eating tea. From eating to drinking, it is out of people’s pursuit of the original flavor of tea. In modern times, there is still the custom of eating tea. Tea is mixed with milk for drinking in pastoral areas. In ethnic minority areas, there are Leicha and Camellia oleifera.
